'Digimon' Fans Celebrate The Franchise's 21st Birthday

  • Digimon, it’s time for you to blow out the candles. Today, the franchise is turning a compelling 21-years-old, and fans are as surprised because they are excited about the important milestone.

    For those unaware, June 26 marks a significant day inside Digimon fandom. While the franchise is best-known for the anime projects, it took its start way back in June 1997. Before the anime got going, Digimon was birthed through the Digimon Masters Online Tera Digital Monster device that had been spawned from Tamagotchi’s insane success the year before. The Digital Monster — or Digimon — device appeared by Akiyoshi Hongo to create the Tamagotchi model better to men. And, as you can observe, the blueprint went over perfectly.

    The special Bandai toy became a hit in Japan, and it also led method to Digimon becoming an entire-on franchise. More than 13 million Digital Monster devices were bought in Japan alone, lots that reveals its V-Pet popularity. Bandai create a second generation device soon there after before another hit in 1998. So, when 1999 came around, these devices leveled up into an anime.

    March 1999 marks the date Digimon hit the top screen with the anime film. Digimon Adventure came each day after, plus the TV show solidified the franchise’s booming success. To date, over 5 anime series have spawned from Digimon alongside a share of films and video gaming. Much like Pokemon, Digimon enjoys the benefits of like a nostalgic anime title due to its late-1990s boom.     For those unaware of Digimon, the series was originally conceived by Bandai, Toei Animation, and WiZ in 1997 so that you can capitalize around the virtual pet craze sparked by Tamagotchi.
